Commonly Asked Questions
What is the maximum capacity of your vessels?
Per USCG law, a bareboat charter may have 1 Charterer (the renter) + 12 Passengers (13 total) before a hired crew. Hired Captains and Crew do not count toward the passenger limit. For our 49 passenger vessels (Sophisticated Lady and Montauk), the maximum capacity is 49 passengers plus crew.
Does a captain come with the boat?
For bareboat (12 passenger) charters, after booking, we provide the Charterer with a
confirmation email listing vetted Operators/Captains familiar with our vessels. You may
also choose your own qualified Operator/Captain, provided their credentials are approved
by us prior to your charter. Please email contact@knotmyboatcharters.com with any
Operator/Captain credentials for approval. Operators/Captains typically command $80-120
per hour before gratuity. It is customary to leave a gratuity of 15-20% of the total
charter price (not to be confused with the Operator/Captain's hourly rate). Payment and
gratuity can be handled directly with your Captain.
For our 72ft and 57ft, 49-passenger vessels (Sophisticated Lady and Montauk), the
captain and crew are provided by Knot My Boat Charters.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations made 14 days or more prior to your charter date can be completed on your
customer portal and are subject to a 5% service fee. Cancellation requests within 13
days of your charter date are subject to a 50% cancellation fee and must be requested in
writing via email to contact@knotmyboatcharters.com. Please include the following
information:
• Charterer's full name
• Organization name (if applicable)
• Scheduled date and time of charter
• Identify request for cancellation
• Reason for cancellation
What happens if there's bad weather?
To ensure guest safety, the Knot My Boat Charters team has the authority to deem whether weather conditions are "charterable" or "uncharterable" due to weather conditions. Uncharterable weather conditions are typically the result of (but are not limited to) heavy storms, small craft advisory warnings, gale storms, strong winds, and large waves. Light rain, passing storms, and cooler temperatures are typically considered charterable. In the case that conditions are deemed uncharterable, our team will work with the charterer to temporarily postpone or reschedule your charter to a future date. In the case of a reschedule, Knot My Boat Charters will issue a rescheduling credit to the Charterer valid up to one year on a charter of equal or lesser value.
